DESCRIPTION:Join us for a powerful Black History Month Fireside Chat as we celebrate the life and legacy of Henrietta Lacks! \nFeaturing an engaging discussion with: \nDr. Melanie L Hafford is the Director of Bariatric Surgery at UT Southwestern’s Frisco campus. She is board certified by the American Board of Surgery\, a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons\, and a Fellow in the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons. Growing up outside of Atlanta\, her interests in medicine and public health were cultivated at Emory University and The Medical College of Georgia. After completion of her surgical residency at UT Southwestern\, she pursued specialty training in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at The Methodist Hospital in Houston\, making her an expert in the comprehensive care of bariatric patients. \nBarry-Lewis Harris\, II MD\, CCHP is Board Certified in Family Medicine and a recognized leader with academic acumen and professional expertise in various facets. He has been responsible for improvements in clinical care delivery\, quality metrics development\, health information management with product system go-live implementation\, patient-centered medical home establishment\, and correctional health oversight. He is a graduate of The University of Tennessee-Martin\, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine at East Tennessee State University\, completed his Family Medicine residency at Meharry Medical College\, and was inducted into The Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. \nCurrently\, Dr. Harris currently serves as the Medical Director and Chief of Correctional Health Services for Parkland Health. Prior to coming to Parkland Health\, he served as Regional Medical Director\, Corizon Health for the Kansas Department of Corrections. He also served as Interim Vice President of Operations for a period while being Regional Medical Director. Dr. Harris possesses essential experience in leadership\, advocacy\, health policy\, culturally competent medical care\, and organizational excellence.
